Ahmad Razali Abdul Malek menyingkap kenangan:
Di Kuantan.
Since kita dah pindah ke Kuantan buat pertama kali nye aku bau baja ikan ... peh meriah beb, terutama hari-hari pagi. Sama je bau ngan longkang kat belakang dapur kat dewan makan tu.
Sampai sekarang kalau aku melintas Kg. Dala akan menjadi wajiblah aku menyinggah kat umah Amall. The bond is still so strong dude ...
Mohd Noran bernostalgia:
Aku ingat lagi atas meja kayu dalam kelas row kedua masa Form 2 di Kuantan (entah sape dulu....most probably Subam or Dr. Nasir), ada coretan puisi dari film “Romie dan Julie” (rasanya filem ini namun, kalian berdua lebih mengingati) .....
jika kau bangun
bersama mentari pagi
jangan kau sesali
burung-burung berkicauan
unggas-unggas berterbangan
Dah mula ni boleh juga saya cerita, until now; saya selalu beritahu isteri saya my favorite song dari filem “Cinta Pertama” (I can still remember the lyrics, pernah terdengar keluar dalam KLKL ... isteri aku pulak suka lagu “Senyumlah KL” nyanyian Alleycats - OUR LOVE SONG kata isteri ku); aku tulis sedikit permulaan sahaja, yg seterusnya deme seme pun ingat lagi .... especially bila jatuh cinta kali pertama
dua insan
bertemu muka
bagei merpati sejoli
berpandangan
bertatapan
berpasangan
dipersimpangan
kasih
bibirmu merah delima
Deme terus aje le …………
noran
Nonie Yusof menjerit:
Amboi Noran....
Soooo romantis!!!! !
Dr Nasir Zainal Abidin menambah:
Dua insan
bertemu muka
bagei merpati sejoli
berpandangan
bertatapan
berpasangan
dipersimpangan
kasih
bibirmu merah delima
wangi seperti rambutmu
aku terperangkap dalam cinta pertama
Mulalah lepas tu, generasi yang menggemari filem-filem lakonan Christine Hakim. Slamet Rachardjo ni tak hensem sangat masa tu.
Satu lagi lagu:
Sesejuk embun pagi hari
aku persuntingmu - oh kasih
............ ......... ......

I was into faces at that time so I used a compass to etch out a kind of potrait on my table. Ada lagi rasanya scribble itu ini dengan pen but the `masterpiece' adalah gambar muka tu.
Kalau fikir-fikirkan balik, entah apa gunanya. See, after so many years kita boleh lupa why we did something dulu.
I could have got them mixed up.
Barangkali juga sebab itu dia ini seperti main charactor in our life movie. He featured in many of the episodes.
I guess it made things more fun kot :)
So, that night we were again woken up in the middle of the night by the shrieking alarm bell. Saya ingat masa itu saya satu dorm dengan Nor Azian Mohamed, Ala Wiyah Yaakob, Nurul Akmar, Arwah Yati Nasir dan few others disebelah sana dinding rendah pemisah. We were on the second floor.
Kita bangun bermacam gaya bergegas keluar dorm, terus turun tangga berkumpul ketempat yang biasa berkumpul untuk fire drill. Somewhere infront of the girls hostel. Was it Nor Azian yang turun kaki ayam, lupa nak pakai selipar ... Saya ingat ada seseorang turun dengan frilly night dress nya (tak mau sebut nama heheh).
Wah, dengan penuh peraturan dan mengikut kata, kita semua beratur in our pyjamas with our teddy bear, bantal, selimut, kaki ayam, berselipar sebelah, dll in mamai state but dutiful nevertheless, depan warden-warden. Mr. Tan Eng Chuan terus jerit menggunakan loud hailer "You st*&$#@! You *^%#@!" disambung dengan ucapan yang panjang dan mengejutkan kita dari our half asleep state.
Ini bukan fire drill ni kita berbisik sesama sendiri. Ini kita kena fire ni. Ini kena sembur ni. Memang. Panjang lebar kena sembur malam tu. It wasn't a fire drill. We were woken up in the middle of the night because I dunno .... someone was so angry, tak boleh tunggu esok pagi.
Yang saya ingat lagi esoknya, saya scrape clean my masterpiece from the top of my desk.
That was fun, wasn't it? Want to go through it again if given the chance to turn back the clock? ;)

Hasnah (0674) Class of 77

Yes, I remember some friends’ faces and the not so nice words from them after kemuncup harvesting. I think I was among the few who never got any chance to partake before-AXN-Extreme- Challenge 'kemuncup' harvesting event. My most adventurous feat was Bobby and even that did not include "fly". Talking about "fly" I remember Azizan and the gang who "fly" to watch the first ever Anita Sarawak concert in Stadium Bukit Ubi (?) Kuantan.
I visited Azizan few months ago with Sher. She is a teacher and resides in Bentong. She suffered a stroke in 1997 and her left side was paralysed but she can get up and walk a bit now. She was so happy to see us though she did not recognize me (understandably! I am now twice of me then).
About Bobby, first I have to apologize profusely to all my former dorm mates (that includes you Kak Senah; hopefully they read this reminiscence) for having to tolerate my incessant foreign language practice. Well, I was only 14 then and being able to articulate a whole phrase and sing in foreign language (Hindi IS foreign) "pahle up, pahle up ... pahle tum pahle tum" was a novelty, right? Look at me now, a foreign (English) language teacher ;)
I don't remember how I came to know about “Bobby” the hindi movie. Being an ardent hindi movie fan, I was very excited to hear it was coming to Rex Cinema Kuantan in 1974. Some dorm mates (the English medium girls) went to the movie with their family over the weekend and came to the dorm raving about it. I just had to go and see it.
The next weekend, me and a few Malay medium friends (Sher, I think you were one of us) decided to brave the school rule which prohibited visit to the cinema. A group of us (five or six) in full school uniform went to Rex Cinema in Kuantan town and tried to get the ticket for afternoon show. It was almost impossible to even get near the ticket booth.
Queueing was unheard of then. So we the 'smart ones' cooked up a strategy. We formed a tight ball and pushed our way to the booth. We did it! We were sort of 'bangga' because we managed to get the tickets. What's more, usually such feat was associated with the more daring English medium students. The Malay medium students were the 'baik-trouble-free' ones. Anyway, we never get 'caught' for that. However, that was the first and the last for me.
Another event which I considered adventurous (well ... apart from tengok wayang and pergi pantai, rekod disiplin bersih, pijak rumput diantara blok Industrial Arts dan dewan makan pun tak pernah) was the time I ran away from the hospital naik beca.
I had problem with in-grown toenail which after sometime was bad enough and required surgery. I was supposed to go to the operating theater (OT) Hospital Kuantan (now called Hospital Tengku Ampuan Afzan). I had to wait for sometime on a bench outside the OT. It was such a long wait. People came and went and I was still waiting until almost 5pm.
While waiting I heard loud screams coming from one of the doctor's office and I heard that the problem had something to do with foot.
The scream became louder and more often. I started having second thoughts. My big toe was in bandage. The in-grown toenail had caused extra flesh to grow from the side where the nail burrowed in making it looked like I was having two big toes, one on top of the other. It was definitely crying out for surgical removal. But all the screams from the doctor's office really 'shrank' my heart. I took a long look at my bandaged toe and I decided to keep the extra toe rather than face whatever was causing all the screams.
I made the decision to leave without surgery. With the hospital card [those days patients were made to take along their own card (the one doctor write down our health complaints when we see them) to the doctor's office] I walked out of the hospital to the bus stop. It was past 5pm (I don't remember exactly why I had to go to the hospital by myself). Probably there was no van yet. I waited for the bus but there was none until past six. I didn't know when the last bus would be so I walked slowly towards school thinking I might catch the bus along the way. I reached the bridge at Tanah Putih and a trishaw was heading home.
I hailed the trishaw pakcik and begged him to send me to Sekolah Sains Batu Lapan. The trishaw man took pity on me maybe and he pedalled his old creaking trishaw all the 6 miles to Batu Lapan. He dropped me at the gate and it was past seven.
When asked how much the ride was, the trishaw man wouldn't say it so I gave him all the money I had with me ... RM5.00 and I thank him profusely.
I still had to walk all the way from pondok jaga to hostel. On the way, I met Mr Tan and he asked why I came in late. After relating my story to him, he let me go without so much words (I thought I was going to join the gang of kemuncup harvester).
And that was is story. Unpurged! Of kemuncup, Bobby and in-grown toenail.
